·
LOFTS
Most homes built more than about 10 years ago need extra insulation in the loft to bring it up to the recommended depth of 250 – 270mm. The estimated market is 10 million homes. Practically every home (excepting flats principally) has a loft area. Grant funding is available where the existing insulation depth does not exceed 6” (150mm).
·
WALL
CAVITIES
Most homes built
after c1935 have a Cavity Wall construction. 7.5 million of them do not have any
insulation in the Cavity space. Heat loss through un-insulated Cavity walls is
the major cause of energy wastage in our homes. Grant funding is available.
Note : Not every home with a Cavity wall is able to be insulated – notable exceptions are –
Timber
or Metal Framed Construction
Concrete or Stone construction
More
about Grants
With the odd exception, remember that grant availability is neither conditional nor means-tested. Grants are available whether a home is subject to sale or not ie. it doesn’t just apply where you are doing an HCR or EPC. If you wish to give up your job as a DEA or HI and just promote Grants, no problem! There are 2 main types of Grant :
Partial
(Contributory)
A partial Grant is obtainable for ANY privately owned or privately rented property (not Council or Social Housing). The percentage varies depending on the householder’s circumstances and location. Typical householder contributions for either Loft or Cavity wall insulation in a 3-bed semi would be in the region of £99 - £250, fully installed including VAT with a 25yr mandatory CIGA guarantee in respect of the Cavity insulation.
Non
– Contributory (100%)
Applicable to any
household where a RESIDENT of any age
is in receipt of a Qualifying
Benefit as defined in the list following OR where additional Grant
funding is available via specific Local Authorities in certain areas from time
to time eg Oxford City Council - over 60’s free, West London WARMZONE -
over 70’s free or Cornwall “Hot-Spots” – free to anyone.

“We
presume that you have undertaken to become a DEA for 2 reasons – A) To earn a
living and B) Because you are concerned about the Environment. If reason ‘B’
does not apply, we suggest you visit
